Arawak
Arawak is an exonym used for various groups of Indigenous peoples in northern South America and the Caribbean. The term "Arawak" has been applied at various times to different Indigenous groups, including the Lokono of South America and the Taíno ("Island Arawaks"), who lived in the Greater Antilles and northern Lesser Antilles in the Caribbean. All these groups spoke related Arawakan languages. Historically, none of the groups described by the term referred to themselves as "Arawak". The term came into popular use due to the work of 19th-century linguists.
